Oran Etkin: An interactive concert for children
Awaken the musical talent in your child. Grammy award-winning Israeli-American jazzman Oran Etkin is set to return to the Czech Republic for the sixth time, with his interactive concert for children aged 3 to 10. The show has become a traditional cornerstone of “Mladí ladí dětem” – an educational programme organised by the Mladí Ladí Jazz international festival.
The interactive concert is based on the unique Timbalooloo method, helping children to perceive music through their own imagination. The method uses fun games, stories and songs to awaken the musician inside of everyone. The children actively participate in the concert and are not required to have any musical knowledge or play any instrument.
“Children are capable of using the language of music fluently, without having to know the rules of grammar,” Oran Etkin adds. The uniqueness of Timbalooloo also lies in the choice of music: rather than playing children classics, the band plays jazz songs by Herbie Hancock, as well as African, Brazilian or Indonesian music. Children need to be shown new things.
How does Oran Etkin know what works with children?
Before breaking through to his rich musical career, Oran Etkin worked as a teacher – hoping to pass on his musical knowledge to the next generations.
“My sister is ten years younger than me, which gave me the opportunity to observe the thinking and behaviour of children since I was a child. Later on I started teaching them rhythm, imagination and a sense of melody. These need to be introduced at an early age, before they even learn to speak,” said Oran Etkin in his interview with the Czech Radio. He quickly understood that his presentation must be based on stories. After years of experience he knew exactly how to do it.
In his stories, the clarinet is the main hero. It even has it’s own name – Klára, and surname – Net, which both combine to “clarinet”.
The new album for children “Finding Friends Far from Home”
In 2019, Oran Etkin released his new album “Finding Friends Far from Home”, which was created all around the world. The record includes the Czech musicians who formed Oran’s band at the Mladí ladí jazz performance in Prague. Following that path, the album was always recorded with local musicians – like in China, Zimbabwe or Japan. The album is available online or available to purchase at any of the events.
The interactive concert is designed for children aged 3 to 10, and is led in English language with Czech translation. The concerts will take place in Brno, Děčín, Prague, Ostrava and Olomouc.

Iggy Pop once said: “I’m telling you these guys are cool!”. The Guardian describes their style as virtuoso jazz or acoustic techno. Which one is it for you?
Whichever it is, Moon Hooch are set to return to Prague with their brand new album “Life On Other Planets”.
In 2019, they made the crowd dance at our open air event at Karlovo náměstí. In 2020, they will perform on April 25th at Palác Akropolis, presenting their new album “Life On Other Planets”, out on January 10th.
An American saxophone techno formation
Moon Hooch were buskers only until the NYPD banned their performances for disturbing public order in New York. It didn’t take long for them to start selling out concerts around the world, and performing in TV shows along stars such as Tame Impala and James Blake.
They say they want their concerts to be like crazy dance parties. Even the most progressive jazz musicians sometime frown upon them. One of the reasons possibly being the large traffic cone on one of the players saxophone.
Make sure to check out their Tiny Desk Concert by NPR, which already gained more than 3 million views on YouTube. The Tiny Desk creator once said it may be his most favourite show ever. It’s not every day that you hear such a mix of jazz, EDM and rock.
Life On Other Planets
The band like to describe themselves as a post-rational group, since they always act based on how they feel, rather then thinking about their own future or success.
That very essence was projected to their new record Life On Other Planets, where they simply tried to transform their live performance energy into a 9-track album. Each song was recorded in one take.
And how does it sound? Somewhat like taking their sweaty t-shirts after a gig, squeezing every last drop from them, distilling the liquid, filtering it through carbon filters and then pouring it into your ears. No studio magic, just 3 virtuosos, who seem to share telepathic skills way beyond the genre and tradition.
Fans will listen to this record and definitely be able to say: “This what they sound like live!”
Tygroo
A revelation of the Czech music scene. Tygroo take an inventive approach to combining genres such as klezmer and balkan with hip-hop, jazz and even dubstep an dance electronica. Their entire show is played on acoustic instruments only – mainly brass and drums – giving them unique musical taste & energy.
Their shows are like rituals – leaping from saxophone drum’n’bass to middle-eastern electrohiphop, through balkan techno, eerie 80s love song parodies and back to sax psy-trance and Moon-Hooch’esque jazz-disco hits. They are therefore the perfect partner-in-crime. They leave their gigs sweaty, exhausted, but happy. Just like the audience does.

Hitfakers
Česko-albánská funková kapela Hitfakers, v jejímž čele stojí temperamentní zpěvák Alfons původem z Albánie, funguje už 15 let. Jejich repertoár je složen jak ze světových hitů s jejich vlastním funkovým feelingem a energickým nábojem, tak z autorských písní. Kapela pokřtí své nové autorské album právě na tomto Jazzbitu.
Gasoline Rainbow
Gasoline Rainbow je 11členná hard-funková kapela z Prahy. Má v arzenálu dvě zpěvačky, pět dechařů a plně FUNKční rytmiku. Repertoár má složený z vlastních i převzatých skladeb. Inspiraci pro svou hudbu hledá v kořenech žánrů funk a soul, ale přijímá vlivy jazzu i rapu. Kapela se momentálně věnuje koncertování, nahrávání a skládání vlastních písní.

Lammel I Lauer I Bornstein (DE)
Lammel I Lauer I Bornstein se seznámili během svých studiíí na Drážďanské hudební univerzitě v roce 2006. Od té doby vystupují v tomto složení. Znalost tradičního jazzu a experimentace s novými zvuky je pro trio stěžejní k vytváření netradičního hudebního uspořádání, kde nejsou staré vzorce odmítány, ale jsou přehlíženy. Díky tomu se jejich skladby rozvíjejí do nepředvídaných a velmi inovativních směrů.
Molotow Moloch (CZ)
Molotow Moloch je autorská experimentální syntéza různorodých prvků jakékoli hudby, která neodporuje přísnému, leč otevřenému vkusu jeho členů – předem není vyloučeno nic. Za svůj výchozí bod považuje MMQ moderní jazz, z nějž přebírá nejen moderní stylovou estetiku, ale i jeho improvizační a zejména syntetizující charakter.

Mike Parker’s Meta je čerstvě založený quartet newyorským basistou a skladatelem Mikem Parkerem. Tvorba je kritiky označována za promyšlenou syntézu všech hudebních žánrů. Hlavní inspirací jsou například Charles Mingus, Radiohead, Maurice Ravel, Led Zeppelin, John Coltrane či David Bowie.
Mike Parker’s Meta jsou Mike Parker, Mateusz Palka, Slawek Pezda a Damian Niewinski.
Jan Kavka Trio (CZ)
Jan Kavka Trio je akustické klavírní trio, které vzniklo v roce 2013 jako příležitostné uskupení hrající jazzové standardy. Později se repertoár rozrostl o autorské skladby a úpravy popových písní. V dubnu roku 2018 vydalo JKT debutové CD pod názvem Past Stories, které vyhrálo 2. místo v rámci ankety Česká jazzová sklizeň pořádané Českým Rozhlasem Jazz.

Devět mladých hudebníků se sídlem v Berlíně a Postupimi. Hrají jedinečnou směs žánrů od elektronické hudby, jazzu, funku až po dub. Spolu s dechovou a rytmickou sekcí jsou jejich živé sety až infekčně hravé a také velmi extatické.
JeN Hovorka & Marek Urbánek (CZ)
Marek Urbánek je vyhledávaný hráč na bicí nástroje, stálice pražské jazzové scény. JeN Hovorka je MC, beatboxer a hráč na klávesové nástroje. Spolu tvoří semi-improvizovanou hudbu, která osciluje mezi free hip hopem, jazzem, minimalismem a dalšími spřízněnými urban žánry.

Mike Bindraban: Mezinárodní booking a artist management

Mike Bindraban je spoluzakladatelem bookingové společnosti Good Music Agency. Ta má pod svými křídly taková jména jako jsou Snarky Puppy, Avishai Cohen, Christian Scott, Brad Mehldau, Bill Laurance, Mark Guiliana nebo Kneebody.
Kromě bookingu se Good Music Agency aktivně zabývá také všemi aspekty, které jsou dnes zapotřebí k tomu, aby mohli jazzoví hudebníci úspěšně cestovat, například marketingovými strategiemi a managementem umělců jako takovým.
